If you have unique tastes that most jewelry designs can't quite match, bring your ideas into Martin Busch Jewelers. We can build you a custom piece with an eye-catching design that perfectly reflects your style and personality. Our simple jewelry customization process involves working closely with you to determine what you want in the perfect piece of jewelry and making that design come to life.
Why Choose a Custom Jewelry Design?
Custom jewelry is an effective way to express someone's individuality. Whether you're shopping for yourself or that special someone, a custom jewelry design is a great way to represent a person's unique style. Custom jewelry is built from scratch, and the design you choose is made only for you. If you're searching online or in the store for the perfect ring, earrings, or other piece of jewelry and can't quite find something that fits your preferences, a custom design could be the best choice for you.
At Martin Busch Jewelers, we can also take stones from jewelry you already own and rework them into a new, fashionable design. If you find diamonds from a necklace worn by your great-grandmother, we can easily take these diamonds and build a custom engagement ring for your partner.
What Does the Jewelry Customization Process Look Like?
To create your perfect custom jewelry piece, we work with you one-on-one to learn your wants, needs, and preferences so that we can design exactly what you're searching for. Here's an overview of the custom design process:
Bring in ideas for your ideal design: We'll meet with you personally to learn what you're looking for. The first thing we'll establish is the specific jewelry item you want and the shape or design you have in mind. It helps if you bring in sketches or inspiration from current jewelry designs for us to build on.
Finalize certain details about the piece: Once you know what you'd like the piece of jewelry to look like, you can decide which design elements you'd like to add. If you're designing this for someone else, find out what metal they'd prefer, such as gold, sterling silver, platinum, or tungsten. You should also think about the stones you'd like the piece to showcase, like colored gemstones or diamonds, as well as the style you prefer, such as traditional, princess-cut, or clean-lined contemporary.
See a molding of your design concept: After we've come up with the perfect plan for your piece of jewelry, we'll sculpt the design concept using a wax mold. You'll be able to look over the design to ensure that it's exactly what you envisioned, and then you can let us know if we need to apply any changes or extra touches to finalize the product. The wax molding is placed in a plaster mold, which heats up and melts the wax, leaving room to pour the metals into the empty areas. The plaster then breaks away to make the jewelry.
Approve the concept, and we'll get to work: Once you approve the design, our experts will implement the design process. Depending on the materials you've requested, the intricacy of the design, and how soon you need the final product, it can take anywhere from three to five weeks for us to complete your custom design. We individually order each material item needed to make the jewelry and take our time getting every detail right before showing you the final product.
Review your piece: After the goldsmith casts your design and we've securely placed all of your gemstones in the perfect spots, we'll polish the jewelry piece and proudly present the item you helped us design.
If you have an older piece of jewelry that's worn down, broken, or an heirloom passed down from previous generations, we can gladly take it off your hands and redesign it especially for you. We can help you remount the piece into a more modern jewelry setting of your choice, or we can take you through the customization process to build a whole new piece using the stone in your favorite used jewelry item.
Updating jewelry allows you to transform older items into new ones to add more significance to each piece. You can take a necklace or brooch that once belonged to a grandparent and use the stone to create a gorgeous ring that represents your history while sporting a trendy design. Custom jewelry is a great way to tell the story of your past through newer and more personalized pieces.
To start the updating process, bring in the jewelry and a sketch of your ideal design. If you don't have a plan in mind, our experts can help you cultivate one using your current jewelry preferences and style. We can use your stone and add it to a new metal base, and you can choose from several popular stone settings, including a prong, bar, or flush setting.
Can You Redesign or Add on to Current Pieces?
If you have jewelry that you want to touch up by adding a few additional features to it, we can easily do this by redesigning your current piece. Bring in the jewelry you'd like to revamp, and let us know which sections you'd like to change or add to. Some people decide to redesign parts of their jewelry pieces a few years after their initial creation due to lifestyle or personal preference changes. Possible design options you can try include:
Keeping your existing metal and adding new gemstones or diamonds.
Removing existing gemstones or diamonds.
Adding a new design to the existing material to better match the current trends.
